Jensen MotorSport development driver Daniel Vela was today announced as a winner of the prestigious BMW Junior Scholarship for the 2009 Formula BMW Americas championship season.
Vela, 15, is from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
In the months of August and September, Vela participated in extensive training with the Jensen MotorSport team at 2 circuits in Canada. Team owner Eric Jensen states, "Daniel is a gifted young driver, who learns very quickly and should have a terrific racing career ahead of him".
To win the scholarship, Daniel competed against 11 other prospects at the road course circuit in Valencia Spain over 2 days in late September. The drivers completed a series of tests in race and street BMW's, while being judged by 3 instructors from BMW Germany.
Jensen MotorSport has a long history of developing talented young racing prospects. The scholarship win by Daniel adds to our tally of assisting drivers to win the available scholarships. For the 2008 season, two out of the three BMW scholarship winners were also graduates of JMS' development test days.
