The 2008 Atlantic Series championship concludes this weekend at the high-profile Petit LeMans sportscar event at the Road Atlanta circuit, 30 miles east of Atlanta Georgia.
With the major changes to the 2008 season schedule following the merger of the Champ Car World Series, and the IndyCar World Series, the Road Atlanta finale was a late addition to the 2008 Atlantic Series schedule. As a result, the JMS team did not have in place sponsors to fund our competition.
The Jensen MotorSport team has been a fixture on the Atlantic Series grid for the past decade. It was a difficult decision not to simply enter one-car to keep our on-going streak alive of competing in every Atlantic Series race staged since the 2002 season. However with no opportunity to move Henri Karjalainen into the top 10 in the final series standings, and also the financial strain on the team of fielding an unsponsored race car, the prudent decision is to sit out the Atlanta event to begin our preparations for our new off-season series entry.
With the consolidation of the US open-wheel racing industry beginning to shown postive signs, JMS plans to return to it's model of developing 3 talented young pilots in the Formula BMW Americas series in the 2009 championship, who we can graduate to our Atlantic Series team in the 2010 season. Meanwhile, JMS fully expects to once again field 2 cars for the full 2009 Atlantic Series championship.
