Dalenberg Shows Impressive Speed at Road America

August 12, 2008

Corey Dalenberg joined the Jensen MotorSport team to compete for the first time in the Formula BMW Americas series at the Road America circuit on the weekend of August 7th – 10th.

Dalenberg, who lives in Belleville Ohio, had just 2 test days worth of experience with driving the Formula BMW race car prior to the Road America event.  Despite this handicap, Dalenberg was immediately on pace with the majority of the BMW field.

The Formula BMW Americas event at Road America was comprised of three races.  In race #1, Corey moved from his 12th place starting position up to the 9th position by the end of the first lap.  The effort from a good start unfortunately was soon thereafter lost with a high speed spin in turn 1, which resulted in Corey having to pit for new tires.  Corey rejoined the race, finishing in 12th position.

In Race #2, Dalenberg again made a terrific start to move into the 10th position entering turn 1.  Unfortunately the chief steward deemed that Corey’s start was a little too good, and made Corey along with two other drivers serve a drive-through penalty.  Corey rejoined the race in 11th position, and finished an eventual 12th.  In Race #3, Dalenberg pushed hard throughout the race and fought for an 9th place result, and set the 9th fastest race lap.

Jensen MotorSport team owner provides his thoughts about Corey’s first experience in the Formula BMW series, “we knew immediately when testing Corey that he can run with the fastest drivers in the BMW series.  His driving style and discipline is ideal to be a winner at this level of racing.  We just lacked the experience this weekend, especially with drafting, to be a podium challenger.”

Corey Dalenberg stated, “It was a terrific experience to drive in my first ever professional car race.  The competition in the Formula BMW series is really tough, but that is exactly why I want to be in this series to keep improving my skills as a driver.”

The next event for Corey Dalenberg and the Formula BMW Americas championship is the race at the New Jersey MotorSports Park on September 27th and 28th.
