Following the news of unification between the Champ Car World Series and the IndyCar Series, there is uncertainty with respect to the revisions that will be made to the 2008 Mazda ATLANTIC championship schedule and rules.
On March 5th, series regulations were altered such that teams have more flexibility with respect to scheduling pre-season tests. As such, and given the logistical costs related to a west coast test for an east coast based team, Jensen MotorSport is electing not to participate in the Mazda Atlantic series test at Laguna Seca on March 10th and 11th.
Jensen MotorSport intends to participate in the 2008 Mazda Atlantic championship, but with 2 full seasons of experience with the Swift 016 chassis including the 2007 pre-season test at the Laguna Seca circuit, there is insufficient merit to make the investment to participate in this Laguna Seca test. Furthermore, it is our team’s view that our resources should be focused more on race competition than testing until the impact of a revised race schedule can be known.
The Atlantic series organizers continue to provide teams with details about the revised schedule for the 2008 season, which may include some exciting additions including a return to the Montreal Grand Prix F1 event in June.
