Jensen MotorSport drivers Frankie Muniz and Tom Sutherland saw action this weekend at the Cleveland Grand Prix.
Sutherland, driving the #2 Drive Energy Soda race car, finished an eventual 15th place (out of 26 cars). The weekend looked to be promising, but unfortunately Sutherland made contact ending his all-important 2nd qualifying session early with suspension and wing damage, which caused him to start in 17th position. Team owner Eric Jensen states, at the time of the incident Tom was sitting in 12th position in 2nd qualifying. With the new tires it looked promising that we would have been able to qualify in the range of 7th or 8th, and that starting position would have dramatically changed our race result.
Muniz, driving the #13 Chandler Team Jensen race car, made contact with another car on the race start sufficient to require a visit to his pit crew for a new front wing. His race effectively compromised, Muniz again had an off course excursion while trying to pass another car on track, ending his race prematurely.
The team did however have a very good weekend with new sponsor DRIVE ENERGY SODA. The team hosted the DRIVE brand launch at Velvet Dog bar in downtown Cleveland on Saturday night. One of the Jensen MotorSport race cars was present outside the bar, and DRIVE product was sampled inside. DRIVE should also gain some good exposure from it’s signage on the race car of Tom Sutherland, which was the featured in the ESPN2 race broadcast with his in-car camera.
The team has another busy week, as it prepares for the Mont Tremblant (Quebec) race just north of Montreal this coming weekend. |
