Three drivers took to the track at the Vegas Grand Prix this weekend to kick-off the 2007 Champ Car Atlantic season.
Frankie Muniz, driving the #13 Hard Rock Hotel / Chandler Team Jensen race car started his Atlantic career with a 22nd position qualifying effort. On Sunday, Frankie was running in 17th position at mid-race when he made hard contact with the spun car of another rookie driver, ending his race. Frankie said of his weekend, “This is the most fun that I’ve ever had in my life. To think that in just 1 year I have progressed enough in my driving to race at such a professional level is amazing. I am looking forward to this whole season so much.”
Tom Sutherland driving the #2 ClickAway Team Jensen entry made an impressive run in qualifying, posting the 13rd fastest time on his last lap. Tom consistently was running just outside the top 10 in the race, and looked set to finish in the top 10 on the last lap when getting caught up in an accident of two other cars, ending his day in 16th position.
Dominick Muermans made hard impact on Friday, causing him to miss most ot the qualifying session. One session behind the others, Dominick played some catch up all weekend. However Dominick quickly sorted himself in the race, moving up to 16th position on the first lap. From then on, Dominick looked poised to finish well in the top 10, before also getting caught up in the same accident with team mate Sutherland on the last lap, finishing a disappointing 17th.
The team moves next to the streets of Long Beach California, where they will race in round #2 of the Atlantic championship on Sunday April 15th.
