It was a disappointing end to Frankie Muniz competition in the BMW World Finals in Valencia Spain today.
Frankie was running a strong 25th position out of 36 runners, when he was "hit" in turn 2 by fellow Formula BMW USA competitor Sebastian Saavedra. Muniz sustained a bent suspension, but continued to finish an eventual 29th. Muniz states, "This was very disappointing. Saavedra was in my group all weekend, and just this morning he made contact with me in Heat Race #3. Then to have him hit me again in the Final is crazy. We saved our last new set of tires for the Final race, which was a major advantage, so I was quite a bit quicker than the guys that I was running with. I am pretty sure we would have finished in the top 20 if this had not happened."
The BMW World Finals is a terrific year end competition, allowing the drivers from the 4 international Formula BMW series to compete against one another on equal terms.
Muniz’s testing in the ChampCar Atlantic race car continues on December 7th and 8th in Houston Texas.
