Jonathan Summerton claimed his first win in the final round of the highly competitive Formula 3 EuroSeries race this weekend at the Hockenheim circuit in Germany.
Starting from pole, Summerton led all the way to close out the season in fine style, and clinching 2nd position in the 2006 rookie point standings, and 9th overall.
Summerton, who hails from Orlando Florida, has been managed actively during 2006 by Jensen MotorSport President Eric Jansen, along with his long-time colleague Luca Baldisserri. Baldisserri is well known as Chief Race Engineer at the Ferrari Formula 1 team, running the cars for Michael Schumacher & Felipe Massa.
Negotiations have been ongoing throughout the summer to place Jonathan with a top European team in a 2 year program, which will have him return to the F3 Euroseries in 2007, followed by 2008 in one of the top seats in the GP2 category. The goal is to have Jonathan driving full-time in Formula 1 in 2009. With his most recent victory, Jonathan looks well poised to be the next American driver to compete at that prestigious level.
